Today, let us discuss an important and worldwide issue. It is an issue that has led to numerous wars and has often drenched the earth with blood. And this issue is termed fanaticism. In a nutshell, it is an excessive intolerance of contrary views and ideas. And the most common and dangerous form of such intolerance that prevails among the minds of many people is ‘religious fanaticism’. It is a form of human obsession and zeal related to a devotion or religion and goes beyond normality to such an extent that it grows into hatred for other religions. The reason behind such issues is that many people want the exclusive survival of their beliefs and faith. They want to establish a religious monopoly of their doctrines and dogmas. And to achieve this, they choose a path that leads to hatred, intolerance, wars and destruction. As mentioned earlier, fanaticism is the cause of many conflicts and the demolition of civilisations. The Crusades, Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the Syrian civil war are a few bloodsheds that happened due to a clash of different religious beliefs. And such wars continue to date.
Many people think that religion is itself the cause of all these issues. But this isn’t true. It is the mindset and perspective of people on other religions which give rise to all these problems. All the religions on this earth have preached peace and harmony and that all men and women are equal. But still, people neglect this most important message and develop such thoughts in their minds. So, before this issue takes the form of a worldwide catastrophe, let us stop this. If we stop such cold feelings from brewing in our minds, we can end many conflicts and bloodshed. So, let us all follow one single religion of love, tolerance, harmony and peace.
It’s not the religion but the people that do not understand it do so.
