A Repeating History of Mistakes

“History repeats itself, first as a tragedy, second as a farce.” It is one of the most quoted and misquoted statements of Karl Marx. But it holds true in most of the situations.

Most of the people have read about the French Revolution which marked the downfall of Louis XVI in 1793 followed by his execution and that led to the rise of Maximilien Robespierre and Jacobin Club and the very infamous ‘Reign of Terror’. Those who opposed it were executed and then came a time when Robespierre himself was executed.

We can notice that the whole thing repeated itself as a cycle. This is not the first time or the last time when history repeated itself because of simple mistakes. Rule of Louis XVI was a tragedy and “Reign of Terror” a farce.

We can notice similar situations in Germany during the rule of Adolf Hitler, the person with a troubled childhood grew up to become a ruthless dictator who mercilessly controlled the lives of his subjects met a very similar end as his subjects. He was compelled to commit suicide in his Führerbunker in Berlin.

There are infinite examples which depict the similar situations wherein simple mistakes and ignorance changed the course of history. The most recent example is the ongoing pandemic.

Every now and then we think that the pandemic is over but at the very same moment a mutated virus makes another dangerous comeback. But it is always under our control to end the pandemic by learning from past mistakes and not repeating it.

“All men make mistakes, but only wise men learn from there mistakes.”
