Here is a story about a jackal. But have you ever seen a blue jackal? Now that is weird but it is possible. Read to know more.
In the village of Madhurmarg, was a laundry. It was a famous one but the washerman always left the indigo colour uncovered in a big tub. It was handy for him to dip the white linens but it truly was risky. In the neighbouring dense forest, which was full of jackals and wolves was a brave jackal Bharuda. He was also very adventurous and tried new ways to fulfil his hunger pangs. Often, he would hunt for exotic birds to fulfil his big meal plans. But of late, there were too many hunters. Moreover, there was Kalva, the wolf who always shooed him off. Bharuda was angry but also hungry. Now, he had no choice but to venture to Madhurmarg village to find a meal.
Madhurmarg village was peaceful and a safe place. The villagers were very nice to animals, especially dogs. In return, the dogs who roamed freely guarded their lanes and homes. The moment Bharuda set foot in the lanes of Madhurmarg, he was rounded by dogs of all breeds. The dogs barked continuously and snarled at him. He panicked. But just as the school bell rang aloud, the dogs scattered and ran away. Bharuda too ran and accidently fell into the indigo tub which was uncovered.
The washer man was angry and chased him. Bharuda ran as if chased by a ghost, and he returned to the forest. He was very hungry and had nothing to eat. He felt sticky and his skin was parched due to the indigo colour. He set off to wash himself and the reflection in the pond gave him an idea. He kept staring at his new colour; he was a blue jackal and one of its kind. He was exotic. He said to himself, “What if I use the colour to my advantage? Either way I resemble a dog. All I need to do is be a GOD to the village dogs.” Though hungry, thousands of exciting ideas rushed in his mind.
The next day, Bharuda set off to the village in a kingly trot. He posed majestically and stylishly as if he was a demi GOD. As usual, the dogs rounded him and noticed that he was of an unusual colour, and his tail was also thicker . They realized that ‘A God has arrived’. They bowed down to him, saluted and prayed to him. Bharuda enjoyed every minute of this and blessed them with grunts and gestures. Inside his mind he was congratulating his cunning mind.
Soon the word spread and all the dogs came in huge groups offering him a variety of food. Bharuda felt as if he was GOD. He was never used to readymade food and that too it so much quantity. But now life had changed for good. He was polite and blessed each devotee. This went on for a week and every night Bharuda sneaked into the indigo tub which was uncovered and got a fresh coat. He was itchy but anything was okay as he was well fed.
Little did Bharuda know that it was going to rain that afternoon! While enjoying the fresh meals, it began to drizzle. Bharuda became worried and slowly the indigo colour started leaking away. There was a blue coloured water pool where he sat. The dogs were aghast, they were angry; they were violent and expressed it with loud hoots, angry barks and warning grunts. Bharuda knew he was caught and maybe will not survive. Once again, the school bell rang and he was lucky one more time as the dogs got scattered and he ran with all his speed and escaped deep into the forest.
So, if you have ever seen a blue dog in your village, be assured it is Bharuda and he is a trickster.
